WWF India delegation meets CEC Tashi Gyalson to boost conservation efforts in Changthang
A delegation from WWF India, including Rigzin Dawa (Senior Programme Officer), Padma Dolker (Project Officer), and Phuntsog Angmo (Senior Education Officer), met with Chairman LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, in the presence of Executive Councillor Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, to discuss conservation initiatives and environmental education in Ladakh.
Rigzin Dawa and Padma Dolker provided updates on WWF India’s Community-Led Vision for People and Nature project in Changthang. They shared insights from 24 community consultations focused on conservation, human-wildlife conflict mitigation, and sustainable livelihoods. The officials also highlighted the upcoming Multi-Stakeholder Meet scheduled for February 2025, which will bring together stakeholders including LAHDC Leh, Ladakh UT Administration, NGOs, civil society organizations, and pastoral communities to enhance conservation efforts.
Phuntsog Angmo, Senior Education Officer, emphasized WWF India’s environmental education programs in Ladakh, such as Mission Khoryug, EPMS, MCoP, WWGC Quiz, TTPC, and ECHO. These initiatives aim to engage students and educators in promoting conservation awareness and actions.
During the meeting, the WWF India Calendar was also launched, further underscoring the importance of conservation in the region.
CEC Tashi Gyalson and EC Tashi Namgyal Yakzee commended WWF India’s efforts and assured full support from LAHDC for conservation and education initiatives in Changthang.
