University of Ladakh launches Mobile Forensic Laboratory

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), flagged off the Mobile Forensic Laboratory acquired by the Department of Forensic Science, University of Ladakh, at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat on August 13.

 Advisor, Dr Pawan Kotwal; Vice Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Prof SK Mehta besides officers, officials and students of the University of Ladakh were present during the flag-off ceremony.

LG commended the Department of Forensic Science, University of Ladakh for this significant advancement, highlighting the benefits that the Mobile Forensic Laboratory would bring to students. He emphasised that the introduction of such cutting-edge technology would greatly enhance students' learning experience. The HLG also reiterated the commitment of UT Administration to support initiatives that foster innovation and technical skills among students in the region.

Dr Sonam Angmo and Dr Rigzin Dorjey informed the LG about the 14 scientific kits, viz. crime scene cordoning/protection kit, general investigation kit, evidence packing and collection kit, complete fingerprint taking kit with workstation, latent fingerprint development kit, foot and tire print casting kit, high-intensity forensic light source, blood and semen detection kit, DNA collection and sexual assault kit, explosive detection kit, narcotic kit, narcotic detection kit, gunshot residue test kit, bullet hole testing kit and arson investigation kit with gas detector. 

The students also demonstrated the use and process of latent fingerprint development kit.
