Sumdha Choon gets 3.16-km road accessibility at 1.50 crore

An all-weather road worth ₹ 1.50 crore stretching 3.16 km connected Sumdha-Choon one of the remote village of Sku-Markha constituency on December 9.

Initiated by Councilor Sonam Norboo under the direction of CEC and EC Rural, the road was constructed by Rural Dev. Department in a record time of about one and a half month.

The road will not only prove beneficial for the people of Sumdha-Chun village but be being a famous pilgrimage destination in the Himalayan region known for its monastery will also boost the tourism sector.

Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC, and T. Wangdus, EC Rural congratulated people of Sumdha-Choon for the road which was the long pending demands of the village.

Dr. Sonam Dawa said that the dream came true due to the collective effort and positive intention of everyone. For extension of the road from Sumdha – Choon to Sumdha-Chenmo, Dr. Dawa directed ACD, Leh to do the survey work at the earliest and said that Council intends to connect Sumdha –Chenmo under CRF for which about ₹ 10.00 crore was already proposed. The road from Sumdha-Choon to Chenmo will be taken under NABARD so that a circular road could be completed in coming years. 

He also inspected the progress of Tsachuthang bridge being launched over Zanskar River and directed Exn. Construction and engineers to use winter months very judicious so that this vital bridge connecting Sku-Markha valley could be completed in next working season well on time.

The bridge was washed away during the Phuktal River burst in May 2015. 

Dr. Dawa also directed them to speed up the road construction works in the Sku-Markha valley by ensuring crossing of JCB machines from Zanskar river towards Sku-Markha at the earliest.

CEC also visited Chiling and Izangs villages and addressed grievances of the villages and assured to take up their demands priority wise.
