Streams in spate after swift rise of temperature in Leh

The sudden rise in temperature resulted in the overflow of streams which washed away fields and bridges in some part of Tashi Gatsal-Choglamsar, Saboo and Phyang.
Executive Councillor Tourism LAHDC, Leh, Mohammad Shafi visited the water overflow affected villages of Leh on 8th July. He visited the affected areas to check and take an account of the damages caused by nature.
Mohammad Shafi directs an immediate action by putting 3 JCB to work for proper diversion of water inflow into the stream on an immediate basis at Choglamsar-Tashi Gatsal.
As informed by the Sarpanch Saboo, minor damages have incurred in Saboo village including the headwork which can be managed and rectified by the villagers themselves.
The overflowing water from streams inundated several areas including Phyang, where the foot bridge (Churgo-Thangnak) has been washed away and places like Chubi-Yartsey, Pholung, Styangs, Pharka yurgo, Lharjey Chongston Yurgo and Churgo Thangjuk has been disturbed.
Listening to the grievances of the people, Mohammad Shafi gave immediate direction to the Exn. Irrigation and Flood Control and all other concerned officials to work immediately from the next day in order to control the overflow of water in order to stop the damages and disturbance caused by it.
He also urged to complete the on- going work of Spituk Galden Targesling Gonpa at the earliest, as His Holiness Dalai Lama will be visiting on 27th July.
To take the stock of the damages, Assistant Commissioner Revenue Leh, Ghulam Ahmed, Councillor Phyang, Tsering Sonam, Executive Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control (PWD) Leh, Sonam Angchuk and other concerned Officials were also accompanied.
