A deeply emotional atmosphere enveloped the villages of Kharul Hardass and Matayen in Drass on Tuesday morning as the final batch of around 100 to 120 Hajj pilgrims from Kargil district, Union Territory of Ladakh, began their sacred journey to the holy city of Makkah.

As dawn broke over the region, large numbers of families gathered to bid farewell to their loved ones—many embarking on the pilgrimage for the very first time. The air was filled with tears, prayers, and heartfelt goodbyes, reflecting the spiritual significance and emotional weight of the moment.

The group was formally flagged off by Mohd Ali Majaz, Chairperson of the Hajj Committee for UT Ladakh, along with Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Kargil, Imteeaz Kacho. Ceremonial gatherings took place at both Kharul Hardass and Matayen, where officials and community members came together to offer blessings and well-wishes.

Before departure, the pilgrims were honored with traditional khataqs (ceremonial scarves), symbolizing respect, goodwill, and spiritual blessings. Warm send-offs were extended by ADC Imteeaz Kacho, Hajj Committee Chairperson Ali Majaz, Committee Member Nazir Ahmed (Leh District), Hajj Officer Haji Mohd. Ali, and Hajj Coordinator Habibullah.

This departure is part of a phased travel plan. The second group of pilgrims will depart later on May 6, followed by the final group the same day. All pilgrims from Kargil are scheduled to fly from Srinagar International Airport on May 9, first arriving in the holy city of Medina before proceeding to Mecca.
