SNM Hospital introduces dedicated elder helpdesk with HelpAge India
In a noteworthy step toward enhancing healthcare services for senior citizens, Ghulam Mehdi, Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, inaugurated the Elder Helpdesk at SNM Hospital Leh on January 27.
The initiative, managed by HelpAge India in collaboration with SNM Hospital, aims to provide elderly patients with personalized support, ensuring they receive healthcare services with dignity and care.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Rajesh Kumar, State Head of HelpAge India; Dr. Tashi Thinles, Director of Health; Dr. Dolma Chuskit, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Leh; and Dr. Jigmet Wangchuk, Deputy Medical Superintendent.
The Elder Helpdesk is specially designed to assist senior citizens in navigating the healthcare system efficiently. It addresses their unique needs by offering timely and compassionate support. The helpdesk team, comprising a Team Leader, a Government Scheme Coordinator, and an Elderly Assistant (Vridh Mitra), is dedicated to ensuring a seamless experience for the elderly during their hospital visits.
This service will provide various forms of assistance to elderly patients, such as mobility support, including wheelchair services, to help them move around the hospital. The team will also guide senior citizens through different OPD departments, particularly those who come without an attendant. Additionally, the helpdesk will facilitate the collection of diagnostic reports and medicines for elderly patients, making their experience more convenient. For those in need of further care or shelter, the helpdesk will establish connections with old age homes and other resources. Furthermore, the helpdesk will assist in identifying and linking elderly patients with relevant government schemes, ensuring they have access to all available benefits.
The Elder Helpdesk is a vital initiative that seeks to make healthcare more accessible and compassionate for the senior citizens of Leh. Its launch reflects a strong commitment to addressing the needs of the elderly and ensuring they receive adequate support in their medical journeys.
