School of Agricultural Science and Technology (SAS&T) celebrates International Women’s Day

The School of Agricultural Science and Technology (SAS&T), University of Ladakh, Leh, marked International Women’s Day with the theme "Accelerate Action." The event featured inspiring speeches and discussions aimed at empowering women in education, professional spaces, and society.
Advocate Sonam Spalzes opened her address with a powerful statement: “Without her, even a hero is zero.” She emphasized the urgent need to accelerate efforts toward women’s empowerment, focusing on education, financial stability, competence, and dedication to work. She also highlighted various forms of violence against women and discussed effective prevention strategies.
Dr. Dechen Angmo provided an insightful briefing on the history and significance of International Women’s Day, setting the stage for further discussions.
Prof. Jigmet Yangchan delivered an inspiring talk on work-life balance, stressing the importance of mutual support and collaboration in professional and personal spaces.
As part of the celebration, SAS&T honored women who have demonstrated dedication and excellence in their respective fields.
Prof. D. Namgyal, in his concluding remarks, reinforced the importance of women’s empowerment and encouraged students to apply the insights shared by Advocate Spalzes. He also emphasized that a healthy body fosters a healthy mind, urging women to continue striving for personal and professional growth.
