President LBA, LGA calls on L-G Mathur, raises CIBS issue
Presidents, Ladakh Buddhist Association, and Ladakh Gonpa Association met Lieutenant Governor, RK Mathur regarding the issues of CIBS on July 29.
President, Ladakh Buddhist Association, Thupstan Chhewang apprised L-G about the apprehensions among the students of the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies regarding the pre-University courses. He requested LG Mathur to help to find an appropriate solution for the interest of the students.
L-G Mathur stated that the administration recognizes the pivotal role played by CIBS in conserving the culture and heritage of Ladakh and stressed the need for taking appropriate steps to strengthen and revive the Institute.
He informed that the UT Administration has been pursuing the CIBS issue for an appropriate solution with all concerned ever since this issue was highlighted –only early this year and the same has been discussed with the Minister of Culture, G Kishan Reddy in New Delhi earlier this month. Further, the matter has been taken up in writing and on phone with Anandiben Patel, Governor of Uttar Pradesh/Chancellor of the Sampurnanand Sanskrit University (SSU), Varanasi, with which the CIBS was affiliated until 2016.
LG Mathur expressed hope to find a feasible solution to safeguard the future of the CIBS students.
The delegation also discussed other matters about employment, youth, and developmental aspects of the Ladakhi society.
