POWERGRID donates truck mounted water tanker to Government Degree College, Kargil
Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID) handed over a 9 kL capacity Truck Mounted Water Tanker to the Deputy Commissioner of Kargil for the Government Degree College, Kargil under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative.
The tanker was handed over by Executive Director (Northern Region-II), Rajesh Kumar, to Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil in the presence of Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon; Arshad Iqbal Shah, Sr. GM (Ladakh); Vinod Prakash Baxla, General Manager (HR), and several senior officers from POWERGRID and the District Administration Kargil. Staff and students of Government Degree College, Kargil were also present on the occasion.
CEC Kargil, DC Kargil, and the Incharge Principal of GDC Kargil expressed their gratitude to POWERGRID for this CSR initiative, which will significantly benefit the students and staff of the college. CEC Jaffer highlighted that the tanker will greatly alleviate the college’s water scarcity issues and expressed hope that the PHE Department will achieve 100 percent saturation under the JJM project in Kargil district by the end of August 2024.
DC Kargil, while handing over the water tanker, congratulated the college faculty and students, stating that it fulfilled a long-pending demand and addressed their water scarcity issues.
Executive Director (Northern Region-II), Rajesh Kumar, emphasized POWERGRID’s commitment to providing ongoing support to the Union Territory of Ladakh and highlighted the company's contributions to the region. The cost of the tanker is approximately ₹29.59 lakh.
With more than 3,000 students enrolled in various undergraduate courses, the Government Degree College, Kargil had identified a permanent water supply for daily use as a primary concern. To resolve the issue, college authorities raised the matter with the District Magistrate of Kargil, who then requested POWERGRID to provide a water tanker to ensure an ample supply of potable drinking water for the students and staff.
The MoU for providing this tanker was signed, and today, it was formally handed over to the DC of Kargil for the use of Government Degree College, Kargil.
This project is part of POWERGRID’s ongoing initiatives in District Kargil to promote education. Through its CSR initiatives, POWERGRID has continuously supported the development of various infrastructure activities in UT of Ladakh. So far, CSR projects worth ₹3 crores have been executed by POWERGRID in UT Ladakh.
