People of Likir revive the lost tradition of Losar celebration

The traditional way of celebrating Losar which was once abandoned 44 years back in 1973, Lhukhil Gonyul Thundel Tsogspa on attaining its silver Jubilee year revived the celebration in a grand way on December 22 in Likir.
Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC was the chief guest while Ashok Chakra Tsering Morup, a native retired soldier was the guest of honor. Tsering Wangdus, Executive Councilor, Agriculture was also present.
Congratulating the people of Likir for reviving their aged old Losar ceremonies and heritage values, Dr. Dawa said that such festivals hold the importance of our identity and traditions and therefore each and every Ladakhi must contribute to safeguarding those values with the guidance from our elders.
He informed that the Hill Council is formulating a comprehensive plan to promote winter festivals of Ladakh that would not only help to preserve the vanishing culture but will also help in promoting winter tourism in the region.
On behalf of the Hill Council, CEC announced ₹ 50,000 to Lukhil Gonyul Thundel Tsogspa for further promotion of Losar festival and other important traditions.
Tsering Wangdus, EC appealed people of other villages to revive important chapters of Losar celebration.
Ven. Lobzang Tsultim, Head Lama of Likir Gonpa put forth a demand of bringing the whole village under the coverage of mobile facility as the existing tower fail to cover.
In response to the demand, Tsering Wangdus, EC said that Council is doing hard to improve the mobile phone facility in the whole district.
He further added that the JIO company has also done a wide-range feasibility survey in the district and it is expected to improve mobile service in all the areas soon.
The long-lost ancestral Losar carnivals like Abi-meymey, Lama Jogi, and Karok performances were brought back into life during the celebration.
