The Social & Tribal Welfare Department and the Child Protection Society of UT Ladakh conducted an Orientation Cum Training Programme for newly appointed Chairpersons and Members of the Child Welfare Committee and the Juvenile Justice Board of Leh and Kargil. The training took place at the Mission Vatsalya Office in Agling Leh on September 11.

The primary objective of the training was to enhance understanding of the Juvenile Justice Act 2015 (as amended in 2021) and the Ladakh Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Model Rules 2024, with a focus on improving child welfare. The session also covered adoption regulations 2022 and the roles of various stakeholders in safeguarding children's rights.

Abdul Rahim, Program Manager of the Child Protection Society, UT Ladakh, presented key aspects of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act 2015 and its associated rules. His presentation emphasized the importance of adhering to the Act to ensure the protection and rehabilitation of children in need, as well as outlining the functions and procedures of the Child Welfare Committee and Juvenile Justice Board.

Sonam Chosdon, Program Manager of the State Adoption Resource Agency (SARA), provided a comprehensive overview of the adoption rules and procedures stipulated under the JJ Act. She detailed the legal framework for adoption to ensure that participants are well-versed in the process. The training session concluded with an in-depth introduction to the Mission Vatsalya Portal, aimed at enhancing participants' ability to effectively navigate and utilize the platform. Participants from Kargil attended the program online.
