New Districts Committee meets women representatives of Leh district
The New Districts Committee held a meeting with women representatives from Leh District on November 18 at the DC Office Conference Hall.
The meeting was chaired by Pramod Kumar Jain, IAS (Retd.), with committee members Kacho Asfandyar Khan, IAS (Retd.), and Tsering Angchok, IAS (Retd.), in attendance, along with Deputy Commissioner Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve (ex-officio).
Women representatives from various organizations, departments, and communities shared their perspectives, demands, and suggestions during the session. Key points raised included, reservation of seats for women at political platforms, Equal property rights for women, Formation of LAHDCs in all new districts with reserved seats for women, district
Legal Services Authority in new districts to enhance legal rights awareness, improved transportation facilities, particularly for women during evenings, enhanced washroom facilities for women, establishment of trauma centers in every district, skill development programs targeting various abilities, development of power projects with women’s involvement, creation of shelters for domestic abuse victims and access to microfinance, promotion of self-help groups in tourism, and involvement of women in cultural preservation.
Chairman Pramod Kumar Jain acknowledged the importance of the issues raised and assured that relevant matters falling under district administration would be addressed by the Deputy Commissioner. He further committed to including significant points, such as pro-women governance initiatives, facilities, and legal rights awareness, in the committee's final report for higher consideration.
The meeting saw active participation from women representatives across organizations, schools, departments, and various other sectors of Leh district.
