New District Committee engages leaders and residents of Nubra valley
The New District Committee, led by Pramod Kumar Jain, IAS (Retd.), commenced its three-day tour of Nubra Valley with an inaugural meeting at the Diskit sub-divisional headquarters on November 8. Councillors, Lambardars, religious leaders, and community elders gathered to share their insights on the formation of the proposed new district in Nubra, Ladakh.
Committee members include Kacho Asfandyar Khan, IAS (Retd.), Tsering Angchok, IAS (Retd.), Deputy Commissioner Leh Santosh Sukhadeve (ex-officio), and Deputy Commissioner Kargil Shrikant Balasaheb Suse (ex-officio).
Deputy Commissioner Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, emphasized the Committee’s dedication to making fair, objective, and progressive decisions that address the unique needs of Nubra’s remote communities. He encouraged attendees to provide focused feedback for a clearer understanding of local issues.
Chairman Pramod Kumar Jain assured the community that their administrative needs, concerns, and memoranda would be thoroughly reviewed and considered with empathy.
Deputy Chairman LAHDC Leh, Tsering Angchuk, highlighted key issues, including wildlife management, the proposal to establish three new sub-divisions to better serve the population, and prioritizing Nubra residents for district cadre posts to boost local employment. Angchuk also endorsed Diskit as the ideal location for the district headquarters, citing its central location, availability of land and infrastructure, and strong connectivity. A memorandum supporting these recommendations, signed by five Councillors and local Lambardars, will be submitted to the Committee.
Additional feedback from community members was presented, with the Committee assuring positive consideration of all points raised. The Chairman expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and reaffirmed the Committee's commitment to addressing Nubra Valley's needs and public aspirations in their final report.
