Leh :

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Nyoma — the highest-altitude KVK in the country — is set to launch the ‘Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan’, a nationwide agricultural outreach campaign aimed at equipping farmers with vital knowledge and tools for the upcoming Kharif cropping season. The campaign will be conducted from May 29 to June 12, 2025, across all states and union territories of India.

Spearheaded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, the campaign is a strategic initiative to connect directly with farmers—especially those in rural, remote, border, and underserved areas.

The campaign seeks to:
•    Educate farmers about suitable Kharif crops and improved agronomic practices for their specific agro-climatic zones.
•    Introduce modern techniques in animal husbandry, including pashmina goat and sheep rearing, poultry, and fisheries.
•    Spread awareness about key government schemes offering financial assistance, insurance, subsidies, and infrastructure support.
•    Promote the effective use of Soil Health Cards for organic nutrient management and informed crop planning.
•    Document grassroots innovations and gather farmer feedback to guide future research and policy initiatives.

The Abhiyan will be implemented through 731 KVKs, including KVK Nyoma, with the support of 113 ICAR research institutes, agricultural universities, and state-level departments in agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and fisheries. Each district will deploy three dedicated outreach teams comprising subject matter specialists, scientists, government officials, and progressive farmers. These teams will visit three gram panchayats daily, interacting directly with 100–200 farmers per day. The campaign aims to reach over 1.3 crore farmers nationwide.

Special emphasis will be placed on tribal areas, border villages, and regions with difficult agro-ecological conditions, ensuring inclusive outreach. Teams will disseminate information through village-level meetings, on-site demonstrations, and distribution of digital and printed materials in local languages.

Topics covered will include:
•    Natural farming practices and sustainable techniques
•    Use of improved seed varieties and crop-specific best practices
•    Integrated nutrient and pest management
•    Livestock care, breed improvement, and disease control
•    Agricultural diversification through horticulture, floriculture, dairy, beekeeping, and other high-value enterprises

As part of the campaign’s communication strategy, farmers will receive brochures, posters, audio-visual content, and scheme-specific materials highlighting credit facilities, subsidies, and support programs.

The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan represents a major step forward in strengthening the research-extension-farmer interface. It aims to prepare Indian farmers for a successful Kharif season while promoting innovation, diversification, and climate-resilient practices. The campaign will also provide valuable feedback and insights to help shape future extension programs under ICAR and State Agricultural Universities.

Through this landmark initiative, the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, ICAR, and partnering institutions are reaffirming their commitment to building an Atmanirbhar Krishi and a Viksit Bharat, rooted in knowledge empowerment, capacity building, and inclusive development.
