Meeting to establish World’s First High Altitude Para Sports Centre in Leh held

On November 8, Chairman/Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) Adv. Tashi Gyalson chaired a meeting to discuss the establishment of the world’s first High Altitude Para Sports Centre, in collaboration with the Aditya Mehta Foundation through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The meeting focused on the draft MoU between the LAHDC, Leh, and the Aditya Mehta Foundation, which aims to provide training for specially-abled individuals, preparing them for the 2028 Paralympics.

Councilors Lobzang Sherab, Tundup Norboo, Mirza Hussain; ACR Leh Shabir Hussain; District Social Welfare Officer, Leh; Tehsildar, Leh; Chief Education Officer, Leh; District Youth Services and Sports, Leh; Principal of Chuchot Yokma Inclusive Education School; and representatives from Munsel, Rewa, and PAGIR society, along with officials from the Aditya Mehta Foundation, attended the meeting.

CEC Gyalson described the initiative as a historic step towards supporting differently-abled individuals in Ladakh. He emphasized that this world-class facility will help nurture local talent and prepare athletes for the 2028 Paralympics.

He also announced the formation of a committee to oversee the implementation of the vision and mission for Paralympic representation and to monitor the development of sports and infrastructure.

Additionally, Gyalson revealed plans to send 15 of the most promising athletes for training in Hyderabad. He emphasized the importance of conducting thorough screenings at the sub-divisional level to encourage maximum participation in the selection process. He further directed the identification of land for developing the High Altitude Paralympic Training Centre, the first of its kind.
