Meeting regarding development of agriculture, allied sectors in Kargil held
CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmed Khan chaired a meeting with Director DIHAR, DRDO, Leh Dr. OP Chaurasia, and officials of other concerned departments regarding the development of agriculture and allied sectors in Kargil district on April 5.
CEC highlighted the potential of agriculture and allied sectors and importance of DIHAR, DRDO technology in making agriculture progressive in the district. He said that the meeting aimed to prepare a comprehensive and strategic plan for developing the agriculture and allied sectors in the district.
The meeting was held at the directions of Lieutenant Governor UT Ladakh, Brig. (Dr.) B.D. Mishra (Retd) to discuss inputs for a plan in agriculture and allied sectors for the district.
Talking about the suggestions of progressive farmers, Khan said the suggestions need to be focused on and implemented so that crop production and entrepreneurship in agriculture get boosted in the district with a positive Cost-Benefit Ratio (CBR).
On the suggestion of senior scientist SKUAST Kargil, he emphasized on best packaging strategy for apricot so that there would be brand promotion and the people of Kargil avail maximum benefit from apricot export.
CEC also talked about the development of fodder and the identification of areas for it. He suggested the DRDO impart training on research issues for officials, entrepreneurs, and farmers of Kargil.
Earlier, Scientist DIHAR, DRDO, Leh in his presentation portrayed the purpose of transformation of the agriculture sector by innovative technology. He also talked about the developmental model regarding crop production and displayed some techniques that have been implemented in UT Ladakh from 2017 onwards.
Dr. Chaurasia spoke about their technologies to address various issues related to fresh fruits, vegetables, dairy products, milk, chicken rearing, egg hatching, and growing aromatic and medicinal plants. He also detailed the ongoing research and plans of DIHAR.
Progressive farmers requested the DRDO, DIHAR to set up a sub-center research institute in Kargil.
