Man arrested with 201 kg poppy straw drug
District Police Leh arrested a man from Punjab and seized 201 kg of poppy straw drugs weighing 201 kg from him on June 18 night.
The accused, identified as Nachhter Singh (45 ), was arrested on June 18 night from Phyang check post-Leh. The case FIR number 165/2021, under section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station, Leh and further investigation is underway.
Mohd. Yousuf, SHO, Police Station, Leh said, “Based on the information from our reliable source, the poppy straw was being smuggled in a truck from Punjab which was intercepted by a Police team at Phyang check post around 10 pm. We recovered 9 sacks of poppy straw popularly known as ‘Bukki’ from the truck and as per the provisions of NDPS Act, the drug was seized in presence of Naib Tehsildar, Leh and Sarpanch of the Phyang village. The accused is under police remand.”
He further added that Leh Police is continuing its drive against drug abuse and is committed to make Ladakh drug free. He appealed to people to be aware and inform the police if any suspicious things are observed in society.
“We all need to cooperate with each other and be a vigil to curb the drug menace”, he added.
