The home for many homeless destitute ‘Old age home’ Mahabodhi has come up with the new celebration ‘Senior Citizen Day’ to honour the residing old aged people on November 9 at Mahabodhi Devachan campus.

A total of 31 residing old aged people were honoured as the special guest whereas, Deepak Panday, Commandant ITBP Leh was the chief guest on the occasion.

Appreciating the humanitarian work of Bhikkhu Sanghasena, Deepak Panday, Commandant, ITBP Leh said that he is working and following the path shown by the Buddha.

“Grandparents are one of the important people in our society, who have handed over the old aged tradition and cultural values to us and it is our responsibility to respect, care and love them in a most compassionate way”, he added.

Bhikkhu Sanghasena said, “After seeing the problem faced by the old aged people in our society, we came up with the opening of first old age home in Leh in the year 1995. Today, we have 31 elderly people living in the old age home with all kind of facilities and most importantly with dignity and love. And another 35 inmates have spent their final years with joy and contentment and passed away peacefully.”

On the occasion, a social programme called ‘One day meal’ was also launched. The programme is specially made for all those interested people who want to earn merit by serving meals to these grandparents. The calculated amount of one day meal is ₹7000 per day.

Many of the dignitaries present on the occasion applauded the humanitarian initiative of Sanghasena and committed to support this initiative.

Tsering Dolkar, one of the residents in Old Age Home, expressed her gratitude to the  Bhikkhu Sanghasena for providing wide ranges of humanitarian and spiritual services for them.

Venerable Thupstan Paldan and Venerable Khanpo Konchok Phandey also spoke on the occasion.
