A delegation of 17 Nambardar from different villages of Lower Leh raised the garbage, water and power cut issue faced by the people to  Avny Lavasa, DC on June 9 at DC Office, Leh.

The delegation complained about the action not being taken upon the assurance made last year to shift the open garbage dumping site at Bombgarh. Also, the supply of drinking water tap and tanker gets worsened in the summer season and power supply keeps on cutting from past few weeks in Leh.

Stanzin Otsal, Nambardar, Diskitsal said, “We are facing the problem of Bombgarh from a very long time and it is very important to shift it as soon as possible. All kind of waste is disposed of here. We want the Bombgarh dumping site to be shifted in any case.”

Tashi Sonam, Nambardar, Skalzangling said, “We request to shift the slaughterhouse and garbage dumping at Bombgarh for which the DC has assured that the machines for the waste management plant has reached and soon the work will be started.”

The delegation asked the administration to stop the burning of garbage at Bombgarh for which Avny Lavasa, Deputy Commissioner, Leh assured to stop the practice from the next day.

Phuntsog Wangdan, Nambardar, Mane-tselding said, “Earlier, we used to get two hours of tap water daily but today we are not even getting for one hour properly. It is not sufficient for a huge number of population settled in this area. The old pipeline which was laid down 15 years back couldn’t meet up with the existing population and households.”

They said that in some areas water is supplied on alternate days and that too for limited time. Even the water tanker does not distribute the water sufficiently because of which inconvenience are caused to the people residing in the area.

Tashi Sonam said, “When we ask the concerned department for water, they make excuses such as shortage of diesel, light, driver and tyre which can and should be sought out at their own level”.

“Thousands of labour resides in Skampari area and the poor water supply is unable to meet the requirement of the number of population.  Despite having a big power project of Alchi we still face the frequent power cuts”, added Nambardar Skampari.

Angchuk, Nambardar, Skara said, “We have addressed these issue several times and there is no one to look into the matter.”

Avny Lavasa assured to look into the matter and take appropriate action to solve the problems.
