LG Mathur launches Tourist Wing of Ladakh Police
Lieutenant Governor, RK Mathur launched the Tourist Wing of Ladakh Police and flagged off nine dedicated vehicles for the new wing on August 6 at Police Line, Choglamsar.
The Tourist Wing of Ladakh Police will deal with issues faced by the tourists and ensure environment-friendly activities by the tourists visiting Ladakh.
L-G Mathur stated that in a short period, Ladakh Police has come a long way and has attained landmark achievements. He said that, with suitable communication and technological support, the Tourist Wing of Ladakh Police, can handle rescue missions and other medical emergencies faced by tourists and suggested that they be well-equipped with first-aid and oxygen supplies.
R K Mathur urged that this new wing be trained suitably to be able to create a flawless communication system with various tourism agencies, the District Administration, the health facilities, and other stakeholders for effective coordination in the face of an emergency.
“A balance between assisting the tourists and adherence to the legal aspects will be the key element defining the successful operation of this new Tourist Wing”, stated LG Mathur.
Highlighting the need for the addition of other dedicated branches, LG Mathur mentioned the suggestion made by the ADG Police, Satish Khandare regarding the addition of a Water Wing to the Police Department. He said that post-relevant training; the Water Wing can handle accidental drowning cases and also perform medical evacuations through water systems.
He congratulated the Ladakh Police, particularly their tourist wing, and wished them the best in their future endeavors.
