LG discusses ways to streamline Ladakh's education system with Education Minister
Lieutenant Governor, RK Mathur discussed about streamlining the Education system in the Union Territory of Ladakh with Education Minister, Dharmendra Pradhan on August 17 in New Delhi.
Lieutenant Governor requested handholding for the establishment of state level institutions such as State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), State Institute of Education (SIE), etc. Immediate resolution of the pending issues with Jammu & Kashmir, especially concerning completion and handing over of pending works under Samagra Shiksha were appealed.
LG Mathur also discussed issues pertaining to the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS) and setting up of an Engineering college in Kargil.
In context of the recent announcement by the Lieutenant Governor for Ladakh School Education to affiliate with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), LG Mathur urged the Minister to consider Ladakh’s weather and geographical conditions while taking decisions pertaining examination sessions, office set up and norms etc.
Discussions were also held on setting up of additional Kendra Vidyalaya’s and Jawahar Novodaya Vidyalaya’s, provision for winter uniforms and allocation of Ladakh in various Central schemes to meet the high cost of construction and additional infrastructural requirements for Ladakh’s winter.
