Leh Hill Council team meets Home Minister, Central Tibetan Administration

A meeting was convened on 25 August to discuss issues pertaining to Tibetan residents in Leh district. Sonam Tobgais, Home Minister, Central Tibetan Administration, asked action to be taken against Tibetans who have illegally sold their government leased land to locals.
A discussion was carried on ₹ 650 cr sanctioned by Government of India under a scheme for strengthening Changthang settlement in Ladakh. The aim is to strengthen local infrastructure and boost economic activity in 19 villages which is situated between 0-10 km from India-China border.
Sonam Tobgais requested Hill Council to take up for the release of the fund so as to rehabilitate Tibetan refugees, mainly nomads in Changthang. He also requested to transfer schemes and funds relating to greenhouses, tourist lodges, and educational institutions in Tibetan localities. Also, he asked Hill Council to take up with Enforcement Directorate, J&K to issue a notice or take action against some Tibetans who have unlawfully sold their government leased land to locals in Leh.
He further expressed gratitude to Hill Council and people of Ladakh for their constant support to the Tibetans in ensuring a comfortable and safe stay in India.
Dorjay Motup, CEC, informed that Hill Council, Leh has already taken up the matter with central government and documentation is under process.
He said that the scheme matters to entire Ladakh and Tibetans residing near borders in particular. He assured full coordination and support on part of the council to get the scheme started as soon as possible and also asked them to do constant follow up with Indian Government.
Dorjey Mutup urged Sonam Tobgais to make committed efforts and initiate stern action on their part to keep a check and stop selling leased land by Tibetans to locals.
Executive Councillors, Avny Lavasa, DC, Gurmet Namgail, Tehsildar, CRO, Choglamsar were also present.
