Ladakh University VC meets L-G Discusses enrolment of students, academic progress of University
Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) met Vice-Chancellor, University of Ladakh, Prof SK Mehta on February 28 and discussed the enrolment of students and overall academic progress of University of Ladakh at Raj Niwas.
He inquired about the strength and weaknesses of the University of Ladakh, the number of constituent colleges, and the enrolment of students at its campus.
Prof Mehta informed about the campuses of the University of Ladakh at Leh and Kargil. He said that there are six constituent/Govt Degree Colleges at Nubra, Zanskar, Kargil, Sankoo, Khaltse, and Leh. He further informed that about 550 students are enrolled at both campuses of the University, whereas around 3500 students are enrolled in various constituent Government Degree colleges.
Prof Mehta informed that 20 different courses, including Science and Humanities, are taught at Leh and Kargil campuses. He also informed about the progress of various infrastructure development work at the University campuses and colleges.
He informed L-G about various issues faced by them, especially the low enrolment of students in post-graduate courses.
L-G highlighted four criteria needed to reduce the number of students who opt to study outside Ladakh after passing their Class 12 exams, i.e. introducing courses of their choice, the need for Ladakh to figure among the top universities in University Rankings to enable top companies to conduct campus recruitments, developing infrastructure and qualified and dedicated faculty to teach students.
