Ladakh Sports policy draft to be open for public feedback
Advisor, Ladakh, Dr. Pawan Kotwal chaired a meeting on July 8 to discuss the draft of the Ladakh Sports Policy.
At the outset of the meeting, a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation was given by Dr. Stanzin Thakchos, OSD to the Administrative Secretary of Youth Service and Sports Department UT Ladakh. The presentation highlighted various aspects of the proposed policy, including the appointment of outstanding sportspersons in government jobs and special cash awards for sportspersons winning medals for the country on different national and international platforms.
Deliberations were also held on the objective of the sports incentives to encourage sportspersons and foster the overall sporting scenario in the UT of Ladakh.
Advisor Ladakh directed the concerned officers that the guidelines of the draft must encourage the sports culture in UT Ladakh while going through the procedures for availing any benefits of the policy. He further instructed that the draft must be put in the public domain for stakeholders’ comments before finalizing it.
The vision of the proposed Ladakh Sports Policy 2024 is to create a dynamic, inclusive, competitive, and innovative environment that enables and empowers the youth of Ladakh to experience and benefit from a strong sporting culture. The policy aims to facilitate the creation of a self-sustaining and participative sports ecosystem that makes sports affordable, enjoyable, and sustainable for all those who wish to play and for those who wish to excel on the ground forefront.
The meeting was attended by the ADGP, UT Ladakh; the Commissioner/Secretary of Higher Education, Ladakh; the Commissioner/Secretary of GAD, Ladakh; the Commissioner/Secretary of Health & Medical Education, Ladakh; the Administrative Secretary of PDD/Youth Services & Sports, Ladakh; the Administrative Secretary of Information Technology/RDD, Ladakh; the Administrative Secretary of PWD/R&B, Ladakh; the Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC, Leh; Senior Superintendent of Police, Leh; the Director of the Finance Department, UT Ladakh; the Joint Director of Youth Service and Sports, UT Ladakh; the Director of School Education Department, UT Ladakh; Additional Secretary of GAD, UT Ladakh; Under Secretary of Information Technology/RDD UT Ladakh; OSD to the Secretary of PDD/Youth Services & Sports; District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Leh; and concerned officials. The Deputy Commissioner/CEO LAHDC, Kargil; District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Kargil, and other concerned officials joined the meeting virtually.
