The Union Territory of Ladakh has been honored as the Best Performing Union Territory for its outstanding efforts in carrying out Mandatory Biometric Updates (MBUs) of children during Aadhaar Samvaad 2025, held on April 8 in New Delhi.

Organized by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), Aadhaar Samvaad is UIDAI’s annual flagship event that celebrates innovation, excellence, and collaboration across the Aadhaar ecosystem. The event serves as a platform to recognize significant contributions toward the effective implementation and strengthening of Aadhaar services nationwide.

This prestigious recognition highlights UT Ladakh’s exemplary performance in ensuring timely and comprehensive biometric updates for children—an essential step in maintaining an accurate and secure Aadhaar database. These updates play a crucial role in safeguarding children's identities and enabling access to various Aadhaar-linked services and benefits.

Shashanka Ala, Secretary of the Information Technology Department, UT Ladakh, received the award on behalf of the Union Territory.
Speaking at the event, Secretary IT, Shashanka Ala, stated, “We are deeply honored by this recognition. This achievement reflects the dedication, coordination, and commitment of our teams on the ground. Ensuring biometric updates for children, especially in a geographically challenging region like Ladakh, demonstrates our resolve to advance inclusive and effective digital governance.”

UIDAI also commended Ladakh’s efforts, acknowledging the critical role of MBUs in ensuring the digital inclusion of every child and reinforcing the integrity of the Aadhaar ecosystem.
