L-G Mathur inaugurated the classrooms and hostels under the project 'Ladakh Ignited Minds' at the Ladakh Scout Regimental Center in Phyang on August 24.
Ladakh Ignited Minds project is an initiative of the Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army in collaboration with HPCL and executing partner, National Integrity & Educational Development Organization (NIEDO). The project aims to provide classes to the students preparing for Medical and Engineering competitive exams viz. JEE and NEET.
The fully residential coaching classes have selected the brightest of the students from Kargil and Leh. 1561 online applications were received and after a double tier system of tests and interviews, 34 girls and 21 boys were selected where 24 are from Kargil and 29 are from Leh.
Addressing the inaugural event, LG Mathur praised the Fire and Fury Corps initiative under Lt. General PGK Menon and acknowledged their notable contribution in making available the much-needed classes for competitive exams in the Union Territory.
LG Mathur stated that the data on the number of students opting for Medical and Engineering respectively under this project has given the UT administration a perspective on the requirements of various branches/streams for higher education in Ladakh. He stated that an extensive survey in this regard will be carried out by the Ladakh administration soon.
Congratulating the students enrolled in the courses under this project, LG Mathur wished them the best and advised them to make the most out of this golden opportunity.
Later, the Lt. Governor interacted with the students and their parents present at the event.
