KVK Kargil organises Technology Demonstration Day, inaugurates hydroponic fodder production system
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kargil-I showcased the techniques and technology of the Kendra and inaugurated the hydroponic (soilless) fodder production system during the Technology Demonstration Day on July 8.
Principal Scientist, KVK-1, Dr Ghulam Mehdi demonstrated techniques and technology of the farm such as resources conservation of alfa alfa for different vegetable cultivation using mulching, vegetable cultivation under drip irrigation systems with and without mulching, cultivation of baby and sweet corn with different spacing under drip irrigation, multiplication of dwarfing rootstock of apple under high tech greenhouse and nutrients standardization for soilless cultivation of high-value vegetables.
The field demonstration was followed by the inauguration and demonstration of a hydroponic fodder production machine with a capacity to produce 70-100 kilogram green fodder per day which is more nutritious than the conventional one.
Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC, Kargil, Feroz Ahmad Khan appreciated the KVK for organising technology demonstration day for the public representatives. He said that if the representatives are aware of such technologies, the adoption will become easier. He stressed that if all the line departments along with the public representatives work together on a common platform, the destiny of farmers will surely change in the coming years.
Dr Ghulam Mehdi briefed the CEC and other dignitaries about the problems being faced by the line departments for up-scaling the technology which can be ascertained by involving public representatives.
Underlining the importance of technology up-scaling, CEC assured that a meeting in this regard will be organized by LAHDC, Kargil where all the Councilors, BDC Chairpersons and Sarpanches will be invited. He also directed the Head KVK Kargil-1 to prepare a detailed PPT on the potential of technology upscaling.
