KVK Kargil-II Zanskar conducts first successful trials of Dingree mushroom cultivation
Under the leadership of Chief Scientist Dr. Mohd Mehdi, KVK Kargil-II Zanskar conducted its first successful trials of Dingree mushroom cultivation across various locations, including Ubrak, on November 11.
This breakthrough in mushroom cultivation marks a significant advancement for Zanskar’s tribal farming community, offering them a sustainable income source and enhanced nutritional security.
The initial results of these trials were highly promising, demonstrating the resilience and adaptability of Dingree mushrooms in Zanskar's cold, arid climate by utilizing greenhouse aerial space. KVK’s introduction of this innovative practice to local farmers aims to create new opportunities, boosting both income and food security within the community.
KVK Kargil-II Zanskar is optimistic that Dingree mushroom production will become a reliable source of economic growth, especially as the Zanskar subdivision boasts the district’s highest number of Ladakhi greenhouses.
The KVK team extends its best wishes for Zanskar’s farmers and remains dedicated to introducing more climate-suitable agricultural technologies to uplift the socio-economic status of the local community.
