Kargil Agriculture Department organises training on Buckwheat cultivation and organic farming
The Department of Agriculture Kargil Ladakh organized a one-day workshop cum awareness camp at Yourbaltak village in the Kargil-B zone on July 6.
The event saw the participation of hundreds of farmers, primarily women.The training session was attended by Councillor Yourbaltak, Manzoor ul Hussain; Dr. Mohd Mehdi Akhone, Principal Scientist KVK-1 Kargil; DAO Extension Kargil; AAI; AEOs; and JAEOs of the Agriculture Department.
The workshop commenced with a welcome speech by the AEO of Kargil-B. Resource persons then provided comprehensive training on various topics, including buckwheat cultivation, pest and disease management in vegetable crops, organic farming, the importance of protected cultivation, and the introduction of the Ladakh Green House. Participants were also informed about different Central and State-sponsored schemes available in the Kargil district.
Dr. Mohd Mehdi Akhoon, Principal Scientist KVK-1 Kargil, emphasized the benefits of cultivating buckwheat, highlighting its medicinal value and suitability as a second crop in the district. He also discussed the importance of vegetable production and organic disease management.
Mohd Iqbal, DAO Extension Kargil, briefed the attendees on various departmental schemes implemented in the district over the years, urging farmers to take advantage of these schemes for overall agricultural development.
In his concluding remarks, Councillor Manzoor Ul Hussain encouraged local farmers to adopt the latest farming technologies, particularly organic farming, to boost local production for both consumption and commercial marketing. He praised the Agriculture Department for organizing such workshops and awareness camps in remote villages of the Kargil district.
