International Day of Yoga celebrated across Kargil district
The 9th International Yoga Day-2023 with the theme “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” was celebrated across the Kargil district with enthusiasm at Khree Sultan Chow Sports Stadium, Bemathang, Kargil.
The International Day of Yoga is marked annually on June 21 on a global scale since 2015. To mark the day and raise awareness of the benefits of practicing yoga, yoga enthusiasts gathered early morning at the Bemathang Stadium to participate in and perform yoga.
The main function was attended by Executive Councilor, Health, LAHDC, Kargil, Mohsin Ali, and Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Santosh Sukhadeve at Bemathang.
EC Health, Mohsin Ali said by the endeavors of the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, yoga has been recognized at the international level and it is now performed by people all over the globe. He highlighted the importance of Yoga Day and said that it is an invaluable gift of ancient Indian tradition and yoga has emerged as one of the most trusted means to boost physical and mental well-being. He also said that the day provided an opportunity to meet with each other.
While highlighting the importance of Yoga Day, DC Santosh Sukhadeve said it is the need of the hour to make yoga part of the daily routine for physical and mental health in this stressful world.
The Deputy Commissioner urged people especially youth to make Yoga part of life to gain both physical and mental health which is part and parcel of life. He also said that yoga gives spirituality and mental peace.
Soon after the Yoga session was held, artists from different states and cultures of India presented colourful programs depicting the diverse and unique cultures of the country that enthralled the audience.
Ladakh Academy of Art Culture and Languages (LAACL), Kargil, Ladakh, in collaboration with North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala Ministry of Culture, Government of India organized “Sanskritik Yatra-Sindhu Darshan Festival-2033” on the Yoga Day.
