Hundar village gets waste management centre
Expanding the Project Tsangda initiative, Avny Lavasa, DC, Leh inaugurated another waste management centre in the tourist hub area Hundar village on June 7. It is the second such project in Nubra valley followed by Diskit which was made functional last year and was successful.
Avny Lavasa said that Project Tsangda is already a successful project being implemented by the rural development department. The project was started in December 2017 in Choglamsar and later replicated at Diskit, Khaltse, Nimoo and newly started in Pangong this year. The initiative was carried out because of the urgent need for garbage management in Leh district in a scientific way.
She assured that by the next tourist season this project will leave a very good impact in garbage management in Hundar village and every stakeholder will love to be a part of this project.
Stressing on the importance of cleanliness, Lavasa said that cleanliness is the basic requirement in sectors like tourism, health and education and appealed people to come forward in maintaining cleanliness in their village.
She further urged people, hoteliers and camp owners for their full cooperation in the implementation of Project Tsangda to make it successful.
Councillor Kunzang Lotus appreciated the initiative taken by the Avny Lavasa and appealed people for support and cooperation.
Sonam Norboo, SDM Nubra congratulated people for getting the much-needed project. Hundar caters thousands of tourist’s every day and ensuring cleanliness by implementing such project will further boost the tourism sector.
He also appealed people to extend their full support in the prompt implementation of this project.
Tsering Paldan, ACD, Leh highlighted the aims and objectives of Project Tsangda including segregation of garbage at different stage and importance to reduce, reuse and recycle.
Later, dustbin was distributed to the people and also handed over a new garbage vehicle.
