Disheartened by the failure of the government to consider the inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th schedule of Indian constitution and the opening of Kailash Mansarovar route from Ladakh for pilgrims,  Himalayan Buddhist Cultural Association holds a press conference on May 15 at Zangsdok Palri, Choglamsar. 

Tashi Targais, President, Himalayan Buddhist Cultural Association, said, “Since from 25 years, we have tried at our levels and still striving to make the government hear and consider our demands. The government come and goes after their tenure failing to meet our expectation and fulfill their demand".

“Last year around 80 local pilgrims for Kailash Mansarovar tried to go Demchok but have been stopped by the Indian Army from Nyoma. Since it was a border security issue we moved back. But we felt very neglected and dismayed when pilgrims from Delhi affiliated with RSS were flagged off from Leh for Chota Kailash Yatra till Lhari Karpo, Demchok in 2017”.

He informed about the meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Rajnath Singh, Home Minister in January 2018, in Delhi.

 “Rajnath Singh gave a positive response for the inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th schedule and to address the long pending demand," he added.

He further stressed. “We hope for a positive response from the Prime Minister. If neglected again, we will strive till death to get our demand fulfilled.”

Talking about the inclusion of Bhoti language in the 8th schedule, Tsering Phuntsog, IPS, Retired IGP said, “For recognition of language there are certain parameters set which have been fulfilled and the report are submitted to the government.   Thus, we urged upon the government to recognize Bhoti language.” 

The members of the Himalayan Buddhist Cultural Association put high expectation for the address on the long pending demands of the people of Ladakh by Narendra Modi, Prime Minister on May 19.
