Health Department, Leh focuses on childhood diarrhoea prevention and deworming strategies
Deputy Commissioner Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve convened a meeting to discuss the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign and National Deworming Day, initiatives by the Health Department, Leh on July 27.
State Consultant/Nodal Officer MCH Ladakh, Dr Rinchen Wangmo presented a presentation on the Stop Diarrhoea Campaign, titled "Diarrhoea ki Roktham, Safai aur ORS se rakhen Apna Dyaan."
She highlighted childhood diarrhoea as a preventable tragedy and provided prevalence data. She also talked about strategies, objectives, pre-campaign planning and IEC activities and stressed upon the importance of multi-sectoral involvement which would include the departments of Women and Child, Drinking Water & Sanitation, Urban Development/Municipalities and Education.
Dr. Wangmo also gave an overview of the National Deworming Day, which is conducted bi-annually in Leh, Ladakh in March and September, differing from other states due to the local school calendar. The campaign involves the oral administration of Albendazole tablets to children to prevent parasitic worm infections.
Deputy Commissioner, Leh, Santosh Sukhadeve, directed the concerned departments to collaborate effectively and emphasized the crucial role of IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) materials in spreading awareness. He urged for extensive dissemination of these materials to maximize the campaign's reach and impact.
The meeting was attended by key officials including the Chief Medical Officer Leh, Chief Education Officer Leh; District Social Welfare Officer Leh; Dy. CMO Leh; District Panchayat Officer RDD Leh; AD (P) RDD Leh; State Consultant/Nodal Officer MCH Ladakh; Child Development Project Officer, ICDS Leh; Executive Engineer, PHE Department Leh; Other concerned officials and officers.
