Govt. Middle School Byathang raises awareness on World No Tobacco Day through street play

In observance of World No Tobacco Day, Government Middle School Byathang, Shilikchay conducted an impactful awareness program to educate the public about the dangers of tobacco use. The highlight of the event was a street play performed by students at two prominent locations in Kargil—Lal Chowk and Islamia School Chowk.
The event began with an enthusiastic call from the students: “Come and watch our play, come and watch our play!” Drawn by their energy, many passersby paused to watch the performance.
The street play creatively illustrated how peer pressure and casual offers of cigarettes among friends can gradually lead to tobacco addiction. What might seem like harmless fun can quickly spiral into a life-threatening habit.
Through vivid scenes, the students portrayed the severe health consequences of smoking, including lung failure, cancer, and premature death. To reinforce the message, students held placards with strong slogans such as: “Say No to Tobacco,” “Quit Smoking,” “Save Lives,” “Love Your Life,” and “Hate Smoking.”
The play concluded with a resounding chorus from the performers: “Love your life and hate smoking! Quit smoking and save lives!” The powerful message left a strong impression on the audience, especially on the youth present at the scene.
The simple yet compelling performance succeeded in capturing public attention and spreading awareness about the dangers of tobacco. Community members applauded the students’ efforts and appreciated the school’s initiative in organizing such a meaningful event.
