The Government Degree College (GDC) Zanskar organized a Historical and Archaeological Tour to Rangdum Monastery on May 24 as part of its academic curriculum beyond the classroom. The aim was to help students understand the importance of conducting physical surveys of historical sites in the Zanskar subdivision and its surrounding areas.

Students from the History Department participated in the tour under the guidance of faculty member Dr. Mohd Hussain, who led the field survey and provided detailed instructions on the scientific methods of conducting fieldwork and data documentation.

Each student was given a questionnaire and tasked with engaging local residents from villages including Rangdum, Phey, Sani, Manda, and Rantag Shah to collect information. Through these interactions, they recorded and documented valuable insights into the historical background of the respective villages.

During their visit to Padum Monastery, the students were introduced to significant cultural elements such as mural paintings, Thangka (canvas) paintings, dedicated deities, stupas, the mani wheel (mani skor), and the Kangyur (Tibetan canon).

The purpose of the tour was to enhance students' understanding of local history while training them in the scientific approach to field surveys and primary data collection.
