Government Degree College (GDC) Nubra successfully organized a six-day educational and exposure tour for students to the Kashmir Valley from September 18 to 23. The tour commenced with a flag-off ceremony at the college campus, led by Principal Dr. Tsewang Motup, with the support and encouragement of Commissioner Secretary Padma Angmo, for which the college expressed deep gratitude.

The primary objective of the tour was to provide students with new learning experiences and broaden their exposure. During their journey to Srinagar, students conducted cleanliness drives at key tourist locations such as Lamayuru, Namkila Pass, and Gulmarg, in celebration of the “Swachhta Hi Sewa” initiative, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision to promote cleanliness across India.

On September 19, the group visited the Faculty of Horticulture at SKUAST Kashmir, where students interacted with scientists and research scholars, exploring cutting-edge agricultural techniques such as Tissue Culture, High-Density Apple Cultivation, Hybridization, and Indoor Cultivation. The following day, the students visited Gulmarg, where Dr. Konchok Dorjey introduced them to the region's rich floral diversity, discussing tree species like Cedrus, Pinus, and Abies, as well as medicinal herbs such as Digitalis and Lupinus. Dr. Padma Lhamo provided insights into the historical and cultural significance of Gulmarg.

On September 21, the students toured various educational institutions, including Government Degree College Bemina, where they interacted with Principal Dr. Yashmin Faruq Khan and visited the college's Zoology and Botany museum. They also explored Amar Singh College, the oldest college in Kashmir, and participated in a heritage walk through Old Srinagar City, visiting landmarks such as Jama Masjid, the Tomb of Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin’s Mother, and Pather Masjid, guided by experts from INTACH.

Additionally, the students explored Kashmir University, including the Allama Iqbal Library and various departments, as well as the Botanical Garden, Nishat Garden, Chashme Shahi, and the famous Dal Lake, learning about the botanical, cultural, and historical significance of these locations. They also enjoyed traditional Kashmiri cuisine.

The tour was highly educational and enriching, with students expressing their gratitude to the authorities, including the Commissioner Secretary, Director of Colleges, Principal, and faculty for organizing the educational and exposure tour. The students eagerly look forward to more such tours in the future.
