G20 awareness program on environmental and socio-economical issues of Ladakh held
University of Ladakh and the Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) jointly celebrated the G20 awareness program on environmental and socio-economical issues of the Ladakh region on March 28.
Department of Zoology, Dept. of Mathematics, and Dept. of Forensic Science jointly arranged the program. Registrar, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok K Sharma and Assistant Registrar, Nawang Tundup of the University of Ladakh graced the occasion with their presence.
While addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) Ashok K Sharma encouraged and emphasized the students to the adoption of innovative skills in their routine activities to protect and preserve the fragile environment of Ladakh. He added that it is important to save water amid the tourism season in the region. He also urged the students to create awareness among the tourists to save water and dispose of garbage properly in the region.
A quiz competition was also organised in which eight teams participated from different schools of Leh city including Govt. Boys Higher Secondary School Leh, Govt. Girls Higher Secondary School Leh, Kendra Vidyalaya, and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya.
K.V. team secured the first position while the second position was secured by J.N.V. Leh and the third position was secured by Govt. Girls Hr. Sec. School Leh.
A speech competition on a topic of their choice within the given themes was also held. Sonam Ladol of UOL, Bhuvi Pandita of K.V Leh, and Liyaquat Ali of UOL secured 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions respectively.
Also, a photography exhibition cum competition was organised where students of the University of Ladakh, Padma Angmo, Stanzin Youtan & Mudasir Ahmed Mir secured 1, 2nd & 3rd positions respectively.
