Excise team seizes illicit liquor in Khaltse and Garkhon raids
Acting on specific intelligence, the Excise Department carried out raids in Khaltsi Market and Garkon Village, leading to the recovery of a significant quantity of illicit liquor. The operations were led by Excise Inspector Zulfikar Ali from the Excise Range Leh-Kargil, with support from Sub-Inspectors Mohd Taqi and Stanzin Gaychet, along with Excise Guards Mohd Mussa and Stanzin Skaldan.
The first raid took place at a general store and a residential house in Khaltsi Market, both owned by the same individual, a local resident of Khaltsi, Leh. The search, conducted in the presence of the Nambardar and a community member, resulted in the seizure of 245 cans of beer from the premises. The accused was booked under Section 48(a) of the J&K Excise Act, 1958, and a formal complaint was lodged at the Excise Office, Leh-Kargil.
In a separate operation, the team raided a residential house in Garkon Village, Kargil District, following another tip-off. The search, overseen by the local Nambardar and a village committee member, uncovered 491 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) and 16 cans of beer. The house was owned by a woman residing in Garkon. She was also booked under Section 48(a) of the J&K Excise Act, 1958, and a complaint was registered at the same Excise Office.
Both cases are currently under investigation, with further action being taken by the J&K Excise Act, 1958.
