A small library with around 250 books was set up under the programme title ‘Reach to the unreached’, on September 16 at Bal Ashram hostel, Leh.

Venerable Lobzang Nyantak, Councillor Upper Leh, chief guest of the occasion talked about the importance of gaining good knowledge by reading books in different languages like Bhoti, English, Hindi and Urdu and said reading different books is the only way to become a complete knowledgeable person.

Lobzang Tsewang, Senior Librarian, District Library, Leh briefed about the program and said that the main objective is to inculcate reading habits among the younger generations, students to develop general knowledge apart from their syllabus to become an able person in their life.

He further said, “These books will be kept in the hostel for about 4-5 months and taken back to the district library and other books will be issued. This system will keep circulating for the benefit of the hostel children.”

Tsewang Paljor, Special Officer, Culture Academy, Leh stressed upon reading books to gain knowledge.

A story reading session was also been conducted for the children by the Jr. Librarian, Sonam Angmo District Library, Leh.

 

Tashi Chondol, District Social Welfare Officer, Leh thanked all the participants and especially the Librarian Lobzang Tsewang to initiate such wonderful programs and bringing books to the doorsteps of the destitute children and an unreached section of the society.
