Differently-abled Day: Enabling environment to give the disabled a dignified life

World differently abled day with a theme “Exclusion matters: Access and empowerment for people of all abilities”, celebrated on 3rd December at Shenam Community Hall, Leh.
The day was organized by Education department in collaboration with social welfare department, heath department and different NGOs.
The chief guest of the occasion, E C Agriculture, Tsering Angdus, ensured that the proposed draft submitted to the prior council will be taken into consideration and will put every effort to fulfill all the requirements. He assured that the LAHDC will extend every possible support and assistance towards the specially abled people.
He appreciated the work and dedication of Mohd Iqbal, president Pagir, towards the upliftment and empowerment of the differently abled people.
Mohd Iqbal expressed the importance of considering the accessibility, empowerment, equal rights and opportunity to the specially abled people. He urged the hill council to allocate special budget as per government norms. He added that the equal opportunity and status towards all the people of the society will uplift Ladakh.
Dr. Anwar spoke on the importance of early diagnosis and management of disability and Dr. Mohd Iqbal, Psychiatrist on the psychological effect on disabled persons. District Social Welfare Officer, Rigzin Spalgon highlighted the importance of inclusion and accessibility of disable person.
A twelve motorized tricycles were distributed to the selected candidates with the disability under State Rehabilitation Counsel of Social Welfare Department. The beneficiaries were selected on the basis of age, income criteria etc.
The event was lighted up the heartwarming performance of the talented specially abled children.
The event was attended by the EC Agriculture, Tsering Angdus, EC Tourism- Tsering Sangdup, EC Animal Husbandry- Mumtaz Hussain, Councilors, CMO ,Yangchen Dolma, Religious heads, and representatives of various NGOs, teaching staff, specially-abled students, and parents.
