Debate contest held for school, college students at EJM, College

A debate contest for school and college students was organized on the theme ‘Migration of students; impact on society’ on December 2 at EJM College, Leh.
The competition was organized by Student Organization for Unified Ladakh (SOUL) in collaboration with Education Department, Leh. A total of five different schools and college participated.
Dorje Motup, EC Education was the chief guest and Moses Kunzang, ADC, Leh was the guest of honor.
Dorje Motup, EC Education, chief guest appreciated the initiative of association and said that such programme is the need of the hour. He said that parents and students should know about the result and impact of migration.
“At present, the education system of Ladakh is good as compared to the past but we still have to go a long way. We need to have more enrollments in college and schools and if we have good enrollment the administration and parents will focus more on strengthening and meeting all kind of facilities”.
Informing 1100 students pursuing B.A in Eliezer Joldan Memorial College Leh, he said, “The benefit is that the students are getting the education without spending much of money and parents are also free from unnecessary tension arises when children stay outside Ladakh".
He requested students to spread the message among their respective parents and relatives so that minimum of students migrates for studies.
Moses Kunzang, ADC Leh encouraged the students for reforming the SOUL association and said that it would be more fruitful if the association organize such debate on this topic during the summer season when the emigrated students come for holidays.
Rigzin Dorje, President SOUL talking about the objective to organize this debate said, “Unlike past, we do have college, qualified lecturers and good schools in Leh today. Despite having all kind of facilities hundreds of students migrate each year for further studies. This trend should be changed and the students who are studying in Ladakh should set an example for others so as to stop migration in future in the name of studies”.
He said having an association in Ladakh is as important as it is in outside to address the issues of students studying in Ladakh.
In the debate, KV School comes out as the best school.
At the end, medals and certificates were distributed among the winners.
