DC Kargil reviews progress, strengthens food safety measures at DLAC meeting

Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, chaired the District Level Advisory Committee (DLAC) meeting to assess progress and bolster food safety measures in the district.

The meeting was attended by senior officials, including the Additional Superintendent of Police, Chief Medical Officer, Chief Education Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer, representatives from DPO ICDS, General Manager DIC, AD FCS&CA, and Assistant Commissioner Food Safety Kargil.

Key discussions during the meeting included the enforcement of food safety laws, the promotion of fortified food in Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), Mid-Day Meals (MDM), and the Public Distribution System (PDS), along with inspections, sampling, and rapid testing initiatives.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Food Safety Officer to appoint trainers in each block to facilitate Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) licensing and registration. The Chief Education Officer was instructed to organize training sessions at the Zonal Education Office (ZEO) level for schools providing Mid-Day Meals.

The Horticulture Department was tasked with advising farmers to minimize the use of synthetic food colors in apricots and to ensure compliance with standard safety limits.

The Food Safety, Drugs, and Food Control Organization was asked to hold meetings with Child Development Project Officers (CDPOs) and other relevant departments to conduct training sessions on FSSAI licensing.

The Tourism Department was directed to ensure that all Dak Bungalows are registered under FSSAI regulations.

The Police Department was tasked with transforming the Police Canteen into an "Eat Right Campus" in collaboration with Food Safety Ladakh.

The Chief Medical Officer was instructed to ensure that the canteen at District Hospital Kargil maintains the highest hygiene standards.Additionally, ASHAs and ANMs in the Chiktan block were mandated to undergo training on food safety and hygiene.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the importance of completing all assigned tasks and implementing the directives before the next meeting.
