Councillor Lamayuru-led delegation seeks financial aid for fire victims

A delegation led by Councillor Lamayuru, Dr. Morup Dorjay seeking financial assistance for the victims of the tragic fire incident.

A delegation led by Councillor Lamayuru, Dr. Morup Dorjay, met with the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd), at the Lieutenant Governor’s Secretariat on March 6 to seek financial assistance for the victims of the tragic fire incident that occurred on February 8 at a manufacturing unit in the Industrial Estate, Leh.

The fire resulted in the loss of two workers' lives and caused significant damage to the manufacturing unit.

During the meeting, LG directed the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Leh to expedite the process of providing financial assistance to the next of kin (NOK) of the victims. It was informed that the verification of the NOK is currently being carried out by the respective Deputy Commissioners in Uttarakhand and Chhattisgarh, where the victims’ families reside.

Councillor Dr. Morup Dorjay also requested financial support for the owner of the manufacturing unit, who suffered substantial losses due to the incident.

The LG emphasized that the immediate priority is to provide financial aid to the victims' families, assuring that other concerns, including support for the unit owner, will be addressed subsequently.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner/Secretary to the LG, Dr. L Franklin; Secretary GAD, Michael D'Souza; and Additional Deputy Commissioner Leh, Ghulam Mohd, JKAS.
