Congress wins Thiksey constituency by-election by 110 votes Voter turnout 64.5 per cent in seven polling station

The result of the by-election for the 14-Thiksay constituency of Hill Council, Leh held on June 4 was declared with the counting of votes on June 7 at Indoor Stadium, Leh.
Avny Lavasa, DC, Leh, Moses Kunzang, ADC and other district officers on election duty were present during the counting.
Tundup Gyatso of Indian National Congress candidate won the Thiksey Councilor seat by 110 votes with total 1,163 votes in a close competition with Stanzin Chospel of BJP with 1,054 votes in his favour.
While independent candidates Stanzin Phuntsog of National Conference received 242 votes and Zahoor-ul-Hassan received 249 votes. One postal ballot vote went in favour of INC, 3 votes in NOTA and 39 votes were rejected.
On June 4 a total of 64.5 percent of polling was recorded at seven polling stations for 14-Thiksey Constituency that include Nang, Rambirpur, Thiksay A, Thiksay B, Stakmo, Shey and Shey Yoknos.
Out of 4,261 total voters comprising 2,176 males and 2,085 female voters, 2,749 voters had exercised their voting franchise. INC has emerged as the winning party with their candidate Tundup Gyatso as the new Councilor for Thiksey constituency in the 5th LAHDC, Leh.
The 14-Thiksey Constituency by-election has been conducted due to the sudden demise of former Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Dr. Sonam Dawa Lonpo who was elected as Councilor Thiksay constituency for the 5th term of LAHDC, Leh.
