Chuchot Alchidong residents perform traditional “Sherim” prayer for world peace

Residents of Chuchot Alchidong gathered at the historic stupa on February 24 to perform the centuries-old “Sherim” prayer, seeking world peace, progress, an end to war and famine, and the timely arrival of snow and rain.
This sacred prayer ritual, passed down through generations, has been conducted uninterrupted for centuries, even in today’s scientific era. The tradition brings together people from Olu to Chugar, fostering unity and devotion.
To perform the prayer, venerable monks from Druk Gon Chang Chub Zong Chuchot assemble at the sacred site to conduct the “Stor Gya” and “Storma Go Soom” rituals. Additionally, both men and women participate in the “Doh Mangs” prayers while hoisting religious banners, flags, and “Tarchen.”
Following the ritual of throwing the Storma, offerings known as “Srang Thuk” are presented to the venerable monks, Doh Mangs readers, and other participants.
The community urges the younger generation to uphold this sacred tradition for the collective welfare of all.
