Chief Electoral Officer inspects polling stations
The Chief Electoral Officer, Yetindra M. Maralkar, conducted a comprehensive visit to several polling stations across Leh on May 19.
The visit included an inspection of model polling stations, a special polling station for specially-abled persons and innovative pink polling stations, where the entire polling staff, including security personnel, are women.
The initiative aims to encourage greater female participation in the electoral process, both as voters and as polling officials, thereby promoting gender inclusivity and empowerment within the electoral framework.
During the visit, the CEO reviewed the facilities and arrangements at these polling stations to ensure a smooth and efficient voting process. He interacted with the polling staff, expressing appreciation for their dedication and commitment. He also assessed the security measures, reaffirming the commitment to conducting a free and fair election.
He emphasised the importance of the special polling station for specially-abled persons, pink polling stations in setting a positive example towards inclusive electoral practices. He highlighted that such initiatives are crucial for strengthening democratic values and fostering an environment where citizens feel encouraged and safe to participate in the electoral process.
Yetindra Maralkar confirmed the readiness of the polling stations to handle the electoral process efficiently and effectively.
He was accompanied by the Additional Secretary, Elections Ladakh, Swaran Singh; State Nodal Officer, Sveep Ladakh Dr Tsewang Morup; and concerned officials.
