Celebrating girl power: Mission Shakti marks International Day of the Girl Child in Leh

The District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti, celebrated International Day of the Girl Child at Chuchot Higher Secondary School, Leh, on October 11. This global event aims to raise awareness about women's rights and dignity, promote women’s empowerment, and recognize their achievements.

Aamir Sohail, a social worker at the Special Cell for Women in Leh, delivered a thought-provoking talk on gender issues, equality, and social challenges affecting women.
Jigmet Angmo, an emerging contemporary artist from Ladakh, shared her inspiring journey. She highlighted the importance of art in self-expression and empowerment and emphasized the significance of preserving cultural heritage through artistic expression.

Tsering Angmo, the General Secretary of the Ladakh Football Association and a former international wushu champion, discussed her remarkable achievements and encouraged girls to pursue their passions and break stereotypes.

The event, attended by 80 students from the school, aimed to inspire and empower young girls while promoting equality, education, and social change.

Diskit Ladol, District Coordinator of Mission Shakti, expressed her heartfelt appreciation to the esteemed guest speakers and the Principal of Chuchot Higher Secondary School for contributing to the event's success.
