CEC reviews progress on LAHDC Heritage Documentation and Mapping Initiative
Chairman/CEC, LAHDC Leh, Adv. Tashi Gyalson, chaired a review meeting on January 25 at the Council Secretariat’s Conference Hall to assess the progress of the Heritage Documentation and Mapping Initiative undertaken by LAHDC Leh.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Chairman Tsering Angchuk, Executive Councillors Ghulam Mehdi and Tashi Namgyal Yakzee, and Deputy Secretary Culture Tsewang Paljor.
Representatives from Plannable Consultants, including Executive Director Konchok Tashi, Project Director Stanzin Otsal, and Research Manager Jigmet Katpa, provided updates on the initiative. They announced the successful completion of the pilot project in the Singey Lalok Block and the official launch of the main project.
Plannable Consultants highlighted key components, including drone mapping for heritage and cultural documentation, audio tours for major monasteries across various regions, and a collection of books focused on heritage preservation. It will also feature a new website dedicated to heritage sites, cultural videos, 3D virtual tours, and audio guides. Additionally, a coffee table book showcasing Losar celebrations in Ladakh will be published, alongside the launch of podcasts featuring renowned historians and local experts.
CEC Tashi Gyalson commended the progress and expressed optimism about the project’s potential to preserve and promote Ladakh’s cultural heritage. He emphasized the importance of expediting the initiative’s implementation to benefit the community and enhance Ladakh’s global cultural presence.
The strong support for the project from the Deputy Chairman, Executive Councillors, and other key stakeholders underscored the commitment to protecting and documenting Ladakh's rich heritage for future generations.
