CEC, Leh, tours Turtuk-Bogdang area

To address the demand of people living at the Indo- Pak border in order to replicate in the forthcoming district plan, Dr. Sonam Dawa, CEC on December 11 tours Bogdang Turtuk area for two days.

During the public meet at Turtuk, people demanded the opening of Degree College in the area considering the good roll of students and filling up of the vacant post of Lecturers in Higher Secondary School. Tehsil status for Turtuk, earliest completion of link and internal roads in Turtuk and Tabay Nallah road, protection bunds along the Turtuk nallah which is one of the flood-prone stream in the Nubra region, opening of the proposed road from Turtuk to Hanu, earliest completion of revenue records of various villages of the area, early commissioning of Hydel Projects being executed through LREDA, issuance of Actual Line of Control certificates to the people, facilities for Adhaar Card generation were also put forward. 

For conservation of rich Balti culture and language, people of Turtuk, Thang, Takshi, and Chulungkha demanded to post of Bhoti language teachers in all the schools of their villages. 

Youths of the area also demanded strengthening of school library, facility in school Laboratory, the creation of an Ice Hockey Rink and improvement of the multipurpose playground of the village. 

Responding to the demands of people and delegations, Dr. Sonam Dawa said that present council irrespective of political affiliations is giving top priority for development of far-off villages especially living along the border. In order to ensure uniformity development of all the regions of the district, the Council has initiated some new and innovative changes in the upcoming district plan and urged people’s participation and cooperation in creating positive work culture and congenial environment so that aspirations of the people could be addressed at the earliest. 

He also assured to reflect all their major demands in the district plan and to take up major issues with the Govt. 

He further said that with the execution of tourism promotional projects under Nubra Development Authority in the Nubra region, Turtuk and Bogdang valley will get immense benefit with ample job opportunities. He suggested celebrating Nauroz festival on March 21 as an annual feature in an organized way, exhibiting polo, archery and other unexplored Balti cultural values for tourist promotion.

At Bogdang, people requested CEC to have LAHDC’s intervention in resolving the long-standing dispute of CP Thang land distribution in the larger interest of the people of this area. timely posting of subject lecturers in school, protection bund for Chuthang, filling up of vacant posts of Doctor, renovation of the school building and early completion of Bogdang-fu road demands were also put forward.

CEC also met with people of Hundri where people demanded protection bund along the Shayok river also urged upon the Council to see for an alternative land so that the villagers can be rehabilitated if such a situation is aroused. 

Dr. Sonam Dawa issued on spot instructions to the engineers to initiate immediate protection measures in consultation with the locals.
