CEC Dr. Jaffer inspects Kargil Airport expansion progress
Chairman/CEC, LAHDC, Kargil, Dr Mohd Jaffer Akhoon visited Kargil Airport on December 21 focusing on the expansion prospects of the airport runway.
Deputy Commissioner/CEO, LAHDC, Kargil, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, SE, PWD, Naib Tehsildar, Kargil, Exen R&B, concerned officials of Air Force Station of Kargil accompanied the CEC.
Dr. Jaffer reviewed the preparations required for the AN-32 Courier Service's operationalization, emphasizing its pivotal role in enhancing logistical efficiency. Acknowledging the potential for small aircraft operations, he has formally requested the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh for the airport's expansion.
He assured active pursuit of this initiative with the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MOCA) and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), drawing parallels with successful expansions in locations like Shimla and the North Eastern regions of India.
Dr. Jaffer affirmed his commitment to kick-start the airport expansion project by 2024.
Subsequently, he visited the civil helipad, evaluating the arrangements in progress for helicopter services in collaboration with the Administration of UT Ladakh for finalization.
Expressing optimism, he anticipated a swift initiation of operations, aiming to provide enhanced travel convenience for the people of Kargil, especially during the winter season.
